Annual Bike Swap is 2 weeks away – good way to spend a winter morning

I’m probably too much of a bike geek to avoid this, and realize it’s not for everyone but wanted to give a plug for the annual East Coast “Stop Swap and Save” up in Westminster, MD.

I’d be the first to admit that I really don’t need any more bike related paraphernalia, but I look forward to this each year with childlike glee.  Who knows what dusty trinket you may find?!

Mix of good deals, not so good deals and a bunch of things you really should just walk away from.  Good times!

Welcoming in the new year with some Gravel roads…

Another great welcome to the New Year with a choice of 50K or 100K through some epic Loudoun Gravel/Dirt roads.  Brian H nailed it again this year with some great routing to avoid (mostly) the busier pavement and keep things diverse.

A bit more climbing than some realized (4.8K feet on the 100K option) but generally through shorter hills so it wasn’t terrible.

Great turnout this year with the unseasonably warm weather.  Would guess 30+ started with about a third of those opting for the 100K.  Good times, hello 2016!

GPX files below should you want to recreate either of the routes.

Introduction

Looking to collect some of what’s great about riding in Loudoun County.  Aiming to provide a central repository for a bunch of cycling related info :

  • Bike Shops
  • Shop Rides – who’s going, when, how far?
  • GPX Library so you can go whenever
  • Organized Rides – what’s coming up you should join in?
  • Other Cycling Related Events
  • Off Road Efforts – where can you ride now, and how can you help support new riding areas?
